A New Milestone for Autonomous Driving: Unimore Racing Surpasses the Human Benchmark

A New Milestone for Autonomous Driving

For the first time ever, during the official sessions of the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL), we can say it clearly:

An autonomous car has officially outperformed the human benchmark.

Under identical conditions — same car, same track layout, same environment — the Unimore Racing Team, using an autonomous racing stack powered by HiPeRT’s base software framework, achieved an extraordinary lap time of 58.87 seconds, surpassing the best time ever recorded by a professional driver (59.20 seconds) during data collection laps.

This milestone was achieved during the 12-lap Sprint Race, where the top three teams competed directly on track for the pole position in the November Grand Finale.

It marks the first proven case of super-human performance in real-world, professional-level racing — not in simulation, not on scaled-down prototypes, but on real Super Formula cars by Dallara, one of the fastest single-seater categories in the world after F1.

🚀 A historic step forward for the future of autonomous driving.
